Dear colleagues,

Welcome! We are delighted that you are considering one of our open faculty positions here at Carleton College! We firmly believe that it is a remarkable learning community that supports its members well — including faculty, staff, and students.

Our mission calls upon us to “provide an exceptional liberal arts education … distinguished by the creative interplay of teaching, learning, and scholarship, and dedicated to our diverse residential community and extensive international engagements.” In order to serve that mission, our goal is to foster a learning environment that welcomes all who work and learn here regardless of their race, sexual orientation, gender, political or religious beliefs, or place of origin.

Of course, we also know that you will have questions about the institution, about Northfield, and the Minneapolis-St. Paul area that relate to your personal needs and preferences. We have compiled the information on this website in the hopes that it will address some of those questions — including where our current faculty live, the educational institutions in the area, as well as the advantages and the attractions of both Northfield and the Twin Cities. If you are seeking the answer to a question we have not yet considered, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office: 507-222-4303.

Thank you again for your interest!

Michelle Mattson, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
